Virginia E. Yancey spent years as a Justice of the New York Supreme Court. She heard testimony of the worst things people can do – to each other, to their children, to the helpless. And she used the authority she had to protect the most defenseless beings in our society.
She and her husband, former federal agent Mike Kops, have retired, but their passion to protect didn’t retire with them. They moved to rural Delaware County from New York City, acquired 37 acres in the Catskill Mountains and opened Love & Hope in 2005.
Guided by a principle espoused by Mahatma Gandhi, their mission remains much the same as during their professional careers: provide for the neglected; protect the abused; care for the sick. In short, they provide love and hope to animals that may otherwise have never received either.
“ The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated. ”- Mahatma Gandhi
